FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is a collaborative, non-judgmental process of identifying and exploring areas of a person's individual and/or family life that they would like to change. At BWC, this is accomplished through what is known as "talk therapy," whereby I meet with clients - either in person or virtually - to discuss what brings them in, what they hope to gain from our work together, and my approach to helping them achieve their desired outcomes.
Do I have to know what my goals are before I come in for my first session?
It's not necessary to know what your therapeutic goals are before coming in. In fact, many clients enter therapy knowing that there is something they would like to change in their lives, but are often not sure what outcome they are looking to achieve. I collaborate with each of my clients to develop unique goals for our work together, which can sometimes take more than one session, and may be modified over time.
How many therapy sessions will I need after I start the process?
The length of treatment varies for each client and depends on several factors, such as the nature and degree of the presenting concerns and the client's progress towards achieving their therapeutic goals.
How long are the sessions?
The first session, known as the "intake" session, lasts approximately one hour. Subsequent sessions may be held 30, 45, or 60 minutes, depending on a number of factors that I discuss with each client on a case-by-case basis.
What are the session fees and can I use my health insurance?
Session fees are as follows: Initial (intake) session: $225; 60-minute session: $175; 45 minute session: $150; 30 minute session: $125. A sliding fee scale may be offered on a case-by-case basis; please inquire for more information.
I am an out-of-network provider. Receipts are provided to clients who wish to submit to their insurance companies for out-of-network reimbursement. Many clients have excellent out-of-network benefits and are reimbursed for a significant portion of the session fees upon meeting their out-out-of-network deductibles. It is the client's responsibility to verify their benefits with their insurance carrier, and clients are encouraged to call Member Services for a detailed explanation of their out-of-network benefits. Payment for services via cash, check or credit card is required at the time of the visit.

Will we meet in person or virtually?
I meet with clients in person in my office in downtown Bethel, CT as well as virtually, through a HIPAA-compliant Telehealth platform called Doxy.me.
